Should you represent yourself ("pro se") in a Criminal Case?

I cannot stress enough that it is NOT a good idea to represent yourself in a criminal case.  It is incredibly difficult to do. Even most lawyers will choose to hire another attorney than try to represent themselves.  To represent yourself, you need to have an intimate understanding of the legal process and procedures and know how to present evidence in a very specific way required in court.  If you cannot afford an attorney the court is required to assign you one.
