Failure to Control in Ohio

Generally, if a driver’s vehicle slides off the road or causes an accident, it is assumed that they failed to maintain reasonable control over the vehicle.  For example, if you skid or slide because of poor road conditions due to snow, rain, or ice, you may be cited for failure to control.  Or if an animal darts out in front of you and you swerve and lose control, you may be cited for failure to control.

Failure to Control in Ohio is a minor misdemeanor.  Penalties include 2 points and up to a $150 fine
